How can we help?

Inline Comments and Collaboration

If you work with a team — a copywriter, a VA, a marketing manager, or even just a trusted second pair of eyes — Embellish makes it easy to collaborate on content without leaving the platform.

Two types of comments

Embellish has two comment systems that serve different purposes:

Inline comments

These are attached to specific text in your content. Highlight a sentence you want feedback on, add a comment, and your teammate can see exactly what you're referring to.

Inline comments are available in:

  • The Content Body editor

  • The Content Brief editor

General comments

These live in the Comments panel on the right sidebar and apply to the content piece as a whole (or the project). Use these for broader feedback, questions, or discussion that isn't tied to a specific line of text.

Adding an inline comment

  1. Select the text you want to comment on in the editor

  2. Either:

    • Click the comment button in the floating toolbar that appears

    • Press Cmd+Shift+M (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+M (Windows)

  3. Type your comment and submit

The commented text will be highlighted in the editor. Your teammate can click the highlight to see the comment and reply.

Working with comment threads

Each inline comment creates a thread. Within a thread, you can:

  • Reply — Add follow-up messages to continue the conversation

  • Resolve — Mark the thread as resolved when the feedback has been addressed

  • Delete — Remove a comment (only your own, depending on your role)

Showing resolved comments

By default, resolved comments are hidden to keep the editor clean. To see them, click the Show Resolved Comments button in the toolbar.

Using the Comments panel

Click the Comments tab in the right sidebar to open the general comments panel. Here you can:

  • Filter by page — See comments for Project Details or specific content pieces

  • Toggle resolved — Switch between active and resolved comments

  • Add a comment — Use the text input at the bottom of the panel

  • Reply and resolve — Same thread features as inline comments

Tips for effective collaboration

  • Be specific with inline comments. Highlight the exact text you're commenting on rather than leaving a general note like "this section needs work." It saves your teammate from guessing.

  • Use general comments for big-picture feedback. Things like "the overall tone feels too formal" or "should we add a PS?" work better as general comments than inline ones.

  • Resolve as you go. When you've addressed a comment, resolve it. This keeps the editor uncluttered and makes it easy to see what's still outstanding.

  • Use comments instead of back-and-forth messages. Keeping feedback inside Embellish — right next to the content it's about — means nothing gets lost in email threads or Slack messages.
